Why You Need Branding Before Marketing

Creating a strong branding strategy BEFORE YOU START TO MARKET is the best possible option to get people to look at you. We love attention, right?

So make your brand hot af.

We want to stand out in the sea of other authors to get people to buy our book, right?

Yes.

This is NOT about squashing your competition; it’s about creating a standout and unique brand that is custom to you. It’s about being RECOGNIZED no matter where you appear online. You know certain brands when you see them, right?

What is it about them? The fonts, colors, and overall vibe. THAT is what we want, babe.

BRAND

COLOR PALETTE

Choose a color palette that resonates with your genre AND personality. Need a few ideas?

Warm tones may evoke comfort and romance, while bold colors might suit thrillers or adventure novels. Use these colors consistently across your website, social media, and book covers.

Or don’t. *shrug*

Logo Design

How to logo?

Canva.

Youtube.

Put out a request for a graphic designer. I know a few good ones. Need one? Let me know in your interest form that you’d like to hire one and I can connect you with my favorite ones.

Use the colors you’ve chosen and some vibes and get to work. Need an example?

This could be your initials, a symbolic image related to your writing (like an ass or lips, cause ya know), or a stylized representation of your genre. A memorable logo WILL become a key identifier for your BRAND.

Here are some examples I decided to fuck around with on Canva.

Brand Voice

Beyond pretty shit, your brand’s voice matters.

Define a tone that aligns with your identityโ€”playful, serious, or informativeโ€”and use it consistently in your writing, blog posts, and interactions with readers.

Everyone knows who the fuck I am. Unhinged and direct. Usually with a kinky undertone (well, that’s actually more direct).

Answer these questions:

  • What brand voices catch my attention? Why is that?
  • Does my audience actually connect with my current tone?
  • How do I want to come across to my audience?
  • What tone can I use that reflects my author messaging?

If you are a dark romance author, cheekily throwing innuendoes is usually a good idea.

My current voice represents myself. I cannot be anything other than myself because… it’s tiring to do anything else, right?

REMEMBER:

This is not an exhaustive list. This is just a kick in your ass to get you to do the important stuff and do it quickly so you aren’t stuck scrolling for Canva designs for 12 years.

Find a design and insert your preferred fonts (yes you need to choose 3-4 fonts that you stick to). Then, match up your colors and style of stock imagery.

Social media should look consistent so people recognize it’s you posting. Hellloooo brand awareness and recognition.

Did you find this useful or was it shit? Let me know via an angry email at team@wellreadalchemy.com or just never come back to read my posts again.

KK see you next time!
